XPS Craftfoam is a high-density Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) sheet designed for precision cutting, shaping and surface finishing...and its available in DARK GREY!

Be sure to check our the very talented Josh Foreman's Youtube for some amazing ways to use this material.

This is not EVA or PE cosplay foam — it is a rigid, closed-cell foam ideal for model making, architectural builds, scenic work and lightweight prop construction where structure and stability are required.

Sheet Sizes

  • 600 × 250 mm
  • Thickness range: 10mmm, 25mm & 50 mm

What Makes XPS Different?

Unlike flexible EVA/PE foam used for costume armour, XPS is:

  • Rigid and structurally stable
  • Closed-cell with a smooth surface
  • Excellent for carving and sanding
  • Ideal for hot-wire cutting

It holds fine detail and maintains clean edges when cut, making it a strong choice for architectural and model-scale work.

Applications

  • Architectural models
  • War-gaming terrain & scenery
  • Model boats, railways & aircraft
  • Stage & screen lightweight props
  • Halloween displays & scenic builds
  • Product design prototypes
  • Floral & craft installations

XPS is widely used in professional model shops due to its strength-to-weight balance and uniform internal cell structure.

Working With XPS Craftfoam

Cutting

  • Hot-wire cutter (cleanest finish)
  • Serrated knife or floral knife
  • Hacksaw
  • Router, carving tools or drills

Hot-wire cutting produces a smooth edge with no dust, though ventilation is required due to light smoke during cutting.

Gluing

  • White PVA craft glue
  • Low-temperature glue gun
  • Solvent-free contact adhesives (e.g. UHU Por)
  • Clear polyurethane adhesives (e.g. Gorilla Glue Clear)

Painting

  • Acrylic paints
  • Flexi Paint™ (where compatible with intended finish)

Avoid solvent-based paints unless confirmed suitable for foam plastics.

Important Distinction

If you are building wearable cosplay armour, see our EVA / PE Cosplay Foam range.

If you are building rigid structures, terrain, models or scenic props, XPS Craftfoam is the correct material.
